Treatment Rationale and Benefits of Flexion-Distraction Spinal Manipulation
Flexion-distraction spinal manipulation is performed on a specifically equipped manipulation table with the patient lying prone. The clinician establishes level-specific contact on each vertebra and related disc of the spine for the purpose of:
- Decompressing spinal segments, including the vertebral joints, the intervertebral disc, the spinal nerve and blood-vascular contents in the spinal canal.
- Assisting in neutralizing vertebral position globally and segment to segment.
- Releasing and â€œre-settingâ€ sensory nerves, including the â€œmechano-receptors and â€œnoci-ceptorsâ€ (pain sensors).
